Full House Re-wiring

The average cost for a basic three bedroom property will be in the region of £4,000-£8,000. Clearly, as with all aspects of home construction, the price depends on the specification. While budget might dictate the standard spec – one light, one switch and three sockets per room – it’s important to be realistic.

There might be 10 downlights in the kitchen with eight sockets, while in the bedroom you might choose eight downlights and four sockets and additional control switches like dimmers. You might want brushed chrome finished switches and sockets, as compared to the basic white ones. Typically homeowners tend to choose brushed steel for the public rooms and compromise on white plastic for the bedrooms. Other variables include the size of the house, how accessible/empty the property is and the complexity and standard of the finish.

Kitchen Extensions 

The cost of wiring, including first and second fix with standard sockets and switches and excluding light fittings, should be around £1,000-£1,500 for a kitchen extension.

Very often, a full rewire can be avoided, however; providing the existing cabling is sound and able to carry any additional loads, it also may be possible to upgrade it by adding a modern pconsumer unit, proper earthing arrangements and cross bonding. Start from £225 + the consumer unit
